Unleash the Gospel - What's Next? Families of Parishes

We are not the same diocese we were six years ago when we began this journey. God has been at work in us, in our communities, in our parishes, and in our schools. We have learned to be more docile to the Holy Spirit. We have learned to walk with apostolic boldness and confidence in God. We are committed to working in a spirit of innovation and collaboration. And most importantly, we have resolved to place Christ and his mission above all else. -Archbishop Vigneron

Catechesis, the act of handing on the Word of God, is an official ministry of the Catholic Church. Catechesis centers on sharing the Gospel message, presenting Christian values and principles, building community, and leading people into service and prayer.

The St. Lawrence Continuing Religious Education (CRE) ministry provides opportunities for catechesis with the following religious education programs:

RCIA = Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults: Classes and Rites provide prayer, instruction, and support for anyone seeking to complete the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. Information sessions are held during the summer, and regular weekly classes begin in late September for adults and children. We look forward to welcoming all candidates to the Church and encouraging each other as joyful, missionary disciples. Contact Lisa Rajnicek, Director, for information and to enroll at 586-731-5072, ext. 245.

Childrens Liturgy of the Word: Children four years old through grade 1 are invited during the 10:00am Mass to listen and explore the readings at a child's level of understanding. Children are dismissed before the First Reading and follow their teacher to the library, and then return to their parents in church during the Offertory. This program is on hold pending health and safety guidelines for masses (normally available from September through the end of April). No registration is required. NOTE: this ministry is postponed for 1st semester 2020. Watch for updates. Check out 52Sundays.com for family ideas.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd: A Montessori approach to catechesis for ages 3 -6. Sessions are held in our new Atrium attached to the Parish Resource Center. Classes will be held Sundays at 10:00am (Pre-K) and Mondays at 5:00pm (KN). Registration is required as spaces are limited. (On Sunday, the children stay in class during the whole mass). NOTE: CGS classes in-person are postponed for now.

Continuing Religious Education classes: Students in Grades 1 through 8 attend classes throughout the school year on Monday and Tuesday evenings. An age appropriate curriculum provides formal religious education for each grade, and sacrament preparation during second and eighth grades. Two consecutive years of formal religious education are required for the preparation of each sacrament. Additional information is available in the CRE Parent Student Handbook below. Health and safety guidelines will be followed as required. NOTE: classes will be on-demand 2020-2021 via FlipGrid. Registration is required to receive access codes. Family Faith Formation Sessions will be included during the year. See registration info here

Special Needs Religious Education: Children who have special needs are welcome to attend one-on-one classes with trained, certified catechists. Contact the CRE office for more information. NOTE: please register if you are interested and we will contact you to arrange instruction best suited for your child.

Youth Ministry: Our Youth Ministry program welcomes students in grades 6, 7, & 8 to Friday evening gatherings to share faith and prayer through fun activities and service projects. High school students and their friends are welcome to Sunday evening gatherings. Dates, activities and service opportunities will be posted soon when we have a new Youth Minister.
