“With this celebration of Baptism, the Lord grants each of us the chance to live the beauty and joy of being Christians, that we too, may introduce baptized children to the fullness of following Christ.”
[Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI]

Baptisms at St. Lawrence are scheduled on Saturdays after the 4:30 PM  Mass and on Sundays after the
12:00 PM  Mass.  On occasion, a baptism can be scheduled during the Sunday, 10:00 AM  Mass.  It is strongly encouraged to begin making arrangements at least 2-3 months in advance.  It is likely there will be more than one child baptized on each available date.  The number of children baptized on a specific date will not exceed four.

If this is your first child being baptized at St. Lawrence, parents and godparents are required to take a Baptism Class.  The classes are generally held on the third Monday of each month at 7:00 PM in the church.  [There are exceptions.]  Plan to spend one hour at the class.  Upcoming Baptism Classes through the summer:

August 21
September 18
October 16
November 13 (2nd Monday due to Thanksgiving Holiday)
No class in December due to Christmas Holidays

If the parents and/or the godparents have attended a Baptism Class during the past 2-3 years, the class will be waived.  If a parent or godparent lives outside of the St. Lawrence area, he/she should make arrangements to attend a Baptism Class at a Catholic Church in their surrounding area (i.e. another city or state).  That person should get a letter of confirmation from the Catholic Church at which he/she attended the Baptism Class.   The letter should simply state the name of the individual who took the class, the name of the Church where the class was held and the date the class was taken.  The letter should be signed by a priest from the parish or person who conducted the class.  The letter should be sent to St. Lawrence prior to the scheduled baptism.

Please contact Celeste Herman at St. Lawrence, 586.731.5347 for further information about godparent requirements, additional questions and to schedule your child’s baptism.  Thank you.

Marriage arrangements require a six-month parish registration and active Mass participation. Wedding dates are not given out over the phone or before you have been active parishioners for at least six months. Please call the Parish Office for details.

R.C.I.A. – An Invitation to Faith

When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, "What are you looking for?” They said to him, "Rabbi" (meaning Teacher) "where are you staying?" He said to them, "Come and see." -(John 1:38-39a)

The St. Lawrence Catholic Community welcomes you as you seek to explore the possibility of becoming a Catholic Christian. Our community shares this journey with you, through a process called: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). We offer the RCIA program through a series of sessions held on Monday evenings, beginning in October.

What is RCIA?
Catholicism is a way of life and becoming Catholic is a journey in faith. Becoming Catholic involves entering into relationship with a community of God's people. Our hope is that you will enjoy a deeper relationship with God as you also become acquainted with members of St. Lawrence and the Church throughout the world.  Your RCIA journey will be a unique time for you. You will no doubt notice how your own life experiences and beliefs have brought you to this point as you listen to God's invitation to explore the Catholic faith.

Who is RCIA For:
- Adults never baptized who might desire to become a Catholic.
- Adults baptized in another Christian church who might desire to become
a Catholic.
- Adults baptized Catholic who have not received full reception into the church through the Sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation.

For additional information or to discuss the process in more detail, please contact the parish office at 586-731-5072.

The RCIA for Children is a program that gives instruction as well as formation to prepare children, who were not baptized as infants, for the Sacraments of Initiation. The RCIA for Children is structured much like the adult program, but is done according to age level.

Sessions begin at the end of September on Tuesdays, from 6:45 to 8:00 p.m. Sacraments are celebrated at the Easter Vigill, and sessions end a few weeks after Easter.
